As educators, we know more now about how young people learn than ever before.

As a result, our challenge in schools is to best meet the individual learning needs of our young men and women to help lead and direct the changes ahead in the 21st Century.

The extensive curriculum offerings at Scotch Oakburn College are designed to cater for the whole range of student abilities and are reviewed each year to meet changing needs.

We focus on developing strong literacy and numeracy skills, from the earliest years to Grade 12.

In addition, we seek to develop students who are inquiring and reflective thinkers and who are effective and able communicators and problem-solvers. We want our young people to become self-directed, well-balanced and ethical in their thinking and values and who seek to become responsible citizens valuing diversity and justice.

We also want our students to become world contributors, eager to work responsibly to maintain, protect and enhance local and global environments. Very importantly, we seek to develop young people who are informed, life-long learners.

Our learning community is built on a Christian heritage and strong school traditions. The values we espouse in learning are: grace, compassion, humility, connectedness, resilience, achievement, creativity, integrity, responsibility and equity.

More specific details of learning at different stages can be found under Learning on this website.

There are many different measures of success in education, particularly at a school such as Scotch Oakburn College, but we are very proud of our TCE Results which indicated that not only did our top student gain the equal highest score in the State of Tasmania as well as in Australia, but that students were able to gain tertiary entrance scores to enable them to enter the University or TAFE course of their choosing at institutions around Australia and overseas.
