One of the
greatest gifts we can give young people is a belief in their own
ability.
At Scotch Oakburn
College, girls and boys have unique educational opportunities to
learn about themselves and their relationships with others,
through Outdoor Education programmes. The diverse Tasmanian
environment provides an ideal range of exhilarating locations.
The progressive
nature of the Outdoor Education Programme provides experiences
which promote life skills such as self-confidence, decision
making, teamwork, leadership, self-reliance, initiative and
awareness of the needs of others.
Yearly camps begin
with short trips in Grade 3 and progress to week‑long camps by
Grade 8. Grade 9 provides an intensive course, with small groups
ensuring enhanced opportunities for personal development and skill
acquisition. Grade 10 enables further specialisation and
heightened potential for personal growth. Expeditions to
Tasmania's premier wilderness destinations are featured.
In Grades 11 and
12 a range of specialist courses are offered at weekends and
during school vacations.
Whether in urban
parkland or enjoying the beauty of Tasmania's highland wilderness,
under the guidance of our specialist Outdoor Education staff,
student's personal growth is promoted as they are encouraged to
achieve personal and team goals. Participants find themselves
immersed in a variety of adventurous challenges. It is under such
circumstances that they are able to develop recreational and
survival skills together with environmental awareness and
important lifelong strengths.
Outdoor
Education is one of the most exciting, stimulating and rewarding
aspects of school life for many students at Scotch Oakburn College
