Scotch Oakburn announce the
Alec Campbell Scholarship
Scotch Oakburn College in Launceston has set up a
new scholarship in the name of one of their most celebrated past
students, Alec Campbell.
Alec Campbell was the last Gallipoli veteran, and
is a symbol of the Anzac Spirit. Alec was a student of Scotch
College from 1911 to 1915; his interest extended from economics to
ocean yachting, and in later years he was much involved in the
repatriation of ex-servicemen and in peace-activism. A man who
believed in lifelong learning, Alec Campbell completed an economics
degree at the University of Tasmania in his mid-50s.
The Principal of Scotch Oakburn, Andrew Barr
said: “Alec Campbell was an inspirational individual. We want Alec’s
name to be remembered in years to come, especially within our
college community, through this scholarship which is aimed at
students of all-round ability wishing to pursue of a quality
education”.
The Alec Campbell Scholarship for 2005 is
available to current Year 10 students of all-round ability who would
like to complete their secondary education.

and boarding school for boys and girls from Early Learning to Year
