Old Collegians' Association
In 1979, two of
Launceston’s oldest schools became one when Scotch College and
Oakburn College amalgamated to become Scotch Oakburn College - the
first co-educational amalgamation by independent schools in
Tasmania.
Oakburn, which
was known as Methodist Ladies’ College for most of its 93 years, was
founded in 1886 and Scotch was formed as a boys’ school in 1901. The
schools had become co-educational in 1973 and 1972, respectively.
The
amalgamation which created Scotch Oakburn College was inspired by
the formation of the Uniting Church in Australia in the 1970s and
the desire to create an outstanding co-educational school in
Launceston.
Today, Scotch
Oakburn is one of Australia’s finest schools - a Uniting Church day
and boarding school for boys and girls from Early Learning to Year
12, located on two modern campuses, with two magnificent
co-curricular facilities in Scotch Oakburn Park and the Scotch
Oakburn Performing Arts Centre.
The Scotch Oakburn Old Collegians Association (SOOCA) is made up of
past students from Scotch College, MLC, Oakburn College and Scotch
Oakburn College.
