Primary Years
The delightful setting of the Elphin Campus
provides a secure and caring environment for our students in the
primary years. Here, children can experience the joys and
challenges of learning as they build a strong foundation for their
future years. Creativity and curiosity are fostered as expanding
minds wonder, question, and eagerly tackle new challenges.
Smaller class sizes allow teachers to focus on
individual needs. From the earliest years, a thorough foundation in
literacy and numeracy is a central focus of classroom activities.
Within the classroom and through support staff, student learning is
strongly supported by enrichment opportunities and remedial teaching
according to individual needs. On-going assessment of children’s
progress within the classroom, supplemented by external support
agencies where needs are identified, assists in maximizing learning
potential.
Inquiry, critical and reflective thinking
skills are continually developing through learning activities
designed to lead children along a pathway towards higher order, and
more abstract, reasoning abilities. As the key ways in which
learners tread this pathway, English, Mathematics, the Arts and
E-learning are viewed as essential aspects of learning for all
students. Studies in the Humanities and Sciences enable children to
build their knowledge of the natural and man-made world of the past
and the present, and contemplate preferred personal, environmental
and global futures.
Collaborative learning approaches seek to build
teamwork and relationships. Pastoral care work and co-curricular
activities in areas such as drama, art, music, sport and outdoor
education complement this.
The Junior
School years at Scotch Oakburn offer a special experience for
children and their families.
