A Message from the Director of
Rowing
Welcome
to the Scotch Oakburn rowing season for 2007-8.
All of
your coaches have met and agree that our aim to bring a balanced and
enjoyable rowing programme to the school, which will allow the children to reach
their full potential, will continue following the successes of last season.
Our
‘Vision Statement’:
At Scotch Oakburn we will work together to provide the best rowing training we
can, to ensure a positive and rewarding experience for all rowers, coxswains,
coaches and administrators.
To assist with communication and training we
will continue with the these initiatives:
(a) A dedicated Scotch Oakburn Rowing website
Within this website, you will find all the information you require including,
training times, regattas, entries and race times. It will also include School
Sports policies and procedures, Occupational, Health & Safety guidelines,
coaching ethics, and much more.
We want this site to be used by all on a regular basis.
It will be continuously updated, and will feature the latest photographs of
crews and supporters.
If there is any other information you would like to be included on this site,
please email me on
guyejc@bigpond.net.au and we will include it, if we can.
(b) Introduction of special training camps for U-13s to be held
over a weekend at the Valley Campus.
This opportunity will enable the children to learn the basics of rowing in a
safe environment, free of tidal flow and rough water, under the watchful eye of
our expert coaches.
At the completion of these camps participants will receive a certificate, which
recognises their efforts, presented on the Sunday at a BBQ luncheon when parents
are asked to come and see what skills their children have learnt.
Our senior rowers are well underway with their training, and some of the younger
age groups are just starting, with all expected to have started before the end
of October.
As Director of Rowing, I plan to go out regularly with each coach to discuss the
progression of their crews, particularly in relation to learning the art of
rowing under the ‘Rowing Australia’ guidelines.
We are encouraging all coaches to complete the Level 1 and Level 2 coaching
courses carried out throughout the year under the guidance of the Tasmanian
Rowing Council State Development Officer.
Our aim is to provide your children with the opportunity to row under expert
guidance, and at the same time have an enjoyable experience.
