We are delighted to be a listed in The Educator’s Top 40 Innovative Schools for the third year in a row. Each year The Educator recognise 40 schools across Australia for their innovative learning techniques.
This year we have been recognised for our SOC2City Year 7 program which allowed a practical, real-life learning experience that also addressed compulsory aspects of the Year 7 curriculum.
Fifteen sites were identified around the Launceston CBD for redevelopment, and each group of students was allocated one site for renewal. Students had to decide how they could influence and improve the livability of their particular site and thus shape the perception of Launceston as a city of the future. A central idea was that their designated urban renewal site should provide rate-payers with the services and facilities needed to support and enhance their lives.
Students spent a week in the CBD working from a pop-up learning space, as well as spending a considerable amount of time at their redevelopment sites and exploring other parts of the city.
As a College, we are continually looking for innovative ways for our students to learn and are very pleased to be recognised for this once again.
