Our Senior boys travelled to Melbourne for the Australian Schools Basketball Championships from 2-7 December to participate in the U/20 Mens Division. They faced some very tough competition playing against the following schools: Mount Lilydale Mercy College (VIC), The Scots College (NSW), Hunter Sports High School (NSW), Reddam House School (NSW) and Newington College (NSW).

The boys won two games against Reddam House and Scotts College and only lost by under 10 points to the majority of the other schools, a slow start in a few of the games a contributing factor. The boys were challenged all week with both the competitive teams they faced and the stifling heat they had to endure. Most importantly, however, the boys gained so much from their experiences and developed as a team. It was certainly pleasing to see them come together and bond both on and off the court. Some great memories for all!

The team: Solomon Berechree, Nick Cario, Harry Corbould, Henry Cox, Will Harper, James Kingsley, Alex McCowan, Ben McShane (Captain), Angus Youl. Coach: Rick Wyllie, Assistant Coach: Shane Good, Team Manager: Natalie Good.

This year, for the first time, each of the boys also participated in a 3×3 Hustle competition at the start of the Championships. The team of Nick Cario, Henry Cox and Alex McCowan, progressed to the grand final. They matched up against the team from Endeavour Sports High in the U/17 Division. It turned out to be a thrilling final with the boys only losing by 2 points. Their highlight was definitely getting to experience what it was like to play on the show court at the State Basketball Centre.

On behalf of all the coaching staff that accompanied the team, we would just like to say that it was a fantastic trip and that all boys are congratulated for not only the great basketball that they played all week but also the sportsmanship they displayed.

We have definitely had another successful year in basketball and we look forward to 2019.

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish all our basketball families a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.
