Our Senior Seconds Girls – Gold team went into their Grand Final match on Wednesday as the second placed team behind an undefeated St. Patrick’s College (SPC) side. The girls commenced the game with high-intensity defence and it certainly paid dividends for the great start they had. At the end of the first quarter, we were ahead 11 – 4. They continued this intensity into the second quarter and the girls secured an 11 point break by half time (19 – 8). However, the SPC girls rallied strongly, matching our scores in the last half of the game, but given our tremendous start, SPC couldn’t come back from the first half deficit. We congratulate the girls on their great teamwork and excellent game with the final score 37 – 23. It has been eight years since the last Seconds Girls NSATIS Premiership was won by the College.
Scorers: Zoe Bremner – 10, Kate Mc Shane – 8, Brielle Smith – 6, Farrah Henderson, Briana McCrimmon & Reegan Williams – 4, Sarah Dunn – 1 (All team members registered a score for the game.)
Our Senior Firsts Boys team also played SPC went into the final as the second placed team. Whilst the boys were only 5 points down at the quarter break (7-12), the second quarter proved to be much the same as SPC increased their lead and were 12 points up at half time (29 – 17). To their credit our boys rallied and consolidated their game play early in the third finishing the third quarter once again only 5 points down (40-35), but SPC was relentless and matched our two-point shots with threes in the final quarter extending their lead to 13 points at the final siren (SPC 60 – SOC 47). The determination of our team in the last half was matched only by the determination of the Scotch Oakburn supporters and the war cry performed at the half time break which certainly spurred our boys to finish the game. Congratulations to all the Senior Firsts Boys on a great season of basketball.
