2020 International Round Square Conference
I am delighted to formally announce that Scotch Oakburn College will be co-hosting the 2020 Round Square International Conference in September next year, along with Ballarat Grammar School and Ivanhoe Grammar School. Our dates are 18 – 23 September 2020, the last weekend/week of Term 3. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to give many of our students the opportunity to be immersed in a Round Square Conference, make friends from around the world and showcase Scotch Oakburn and Tasmania to our international Round Square family.
Each school is expecting to have 400 delegates, comprised of 285 students and 115 staff across the six days of the conference. Student delegates at the International Conference are between the ages of 15 and 18, although they must turn 16 in the year of the Conference.
One pivotal role for our community will be the billeting of student delegates, with each volunteer family hosting two student delegates, while adult delegates will stay at local accommodation. Communication about how to nominate to be a host family will be sent out later this year.
Hosting an International Conference is a significant undertaking and will take a large amount of organisation. There will be a considerable time commitment by a number of College staff, students and, through hosting of our guests, families. In consultation with key Scotch Oakburn community groups, it has been decided that due to that impost on people and resources we will not be holding a College Fair in 2020. In place of the Fair, we will have a smaller scale event focused around the Junior School. Again, details will follow in due course.
The College will keep our community updated with details about the International Conference and other key events in 2020 as details evolve. In the meantime, please pencil in the dates in September and I encourage you to give consideration to hosting two student delegates for the duration of the conference.
