Scotch Oakburn College’s “The Artist Series” provides musicians with the opportunity to learn some of Australia’s finest teachers and performers. The final  Artist Series for 2019 sees
Shan Deng, a concert pianist, winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition’s Best Australian Pianist Prize, recording artist and Senior Lecturer in piano and Coordinator of Keyboard at the University of Tasmania present workshops, masterclasses and individual lessons.

Shan Deng is a well-known Australian-Chinese pianist now working in Hobart, Tasmania. Her successes include winning the keyboard final of the ABC Young Performer of the Year Award and representing the Arts as a national finalist in the Young Australian of the Year competition. Shan won the 2010 Australian Big Ben Award for outstanding Chinese youth after a two-year selection process.

Concert demands have taken Shan around the world, and she has performed in Australia, Asia, the USA, South Africa and Europe. She has toured overseas as a soloist with the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra and has appeared with most of the Australian Symphony Orchestras. Shan has been featured in numerous Australian, Chinese and South African radio and television programs.

There will also be a masterclass for pianists to play for and receive feedback from Shan. Attendees can participate as either a performer or listener.

Participants are also afforded the chance to have a 30 to 45-minute individual lesson with Shan. The opportunity to have a lesson with a master musician and teacher is one that should not be missed. Places are limited, so return your registration form as soon as possible.

This is a FREE event open to Scotch Oakburn students and students from the wider Launceston community.
