A group of Year 6 students entered the Launceston Historical Society’s Writing Awards in Term 3 which had a category specifically for 5/6 students. Student were given the writing focus of choosing a Launceston building of significance to research and write about. Our students chose a range of buildings to explore including Duck Reach, The Old Umbrella Shop, C.H.Smith and Franklin House.

Tahlia Muller and Quinn Elliot were both awarded Highly Commended certificates for their research and 400 word paper and were presented with a book on the history of Launceston by Mayor Alfred Van Zetten. The college has also notified by the Society they have chosen Tahlia’s piece which is to be published in The Examiner 17 November.

Congratulations to the students who entered and thanks to the Launceston Historical Society and Launceston City Council for coordinating these awards focusing on our beautiful city.
