This week the Year 8 Mathematics classes independent study unit on Pythagoras’ Theorem culminated in a presentation from our guest speaker (and parent) Jack Birrell. Jack’s architecture business Birrelli were the designers of our amazing Centre for Science and Mathematics, Helix. Jack brought together all the exactness & aesthetics of Mathematics, Art and Nature into a practical and inspiring talk.
The students were exposed to why and how mathematics is such an integral part of many aspects of the architectural field and related careers such as building, surveying, engineering, design et al. An appreciation of the mathematics and art involved in the design of the Helix was an eye-opener for many students.
We thank Jack for taking the time to come along and speak.
