CHESS CHAMPIONS
This week, 17 Elphin and 22 Penquite students headed to Launceston Grammar to compete in the Launceston Interschool Tournament, under the leadership of Chess Captain, Mitchell Fulton. The number of students opting to enter the Tournament is a reflection of how popular the game has become.
For some students, this was their first tournament and they approached the day with nervous enthusiasm, while other students were pleased to be back in the collegially competitive atmosphere that these tournaments provide.
The day proved to be very successful for Scotch Oakburn College, with both the Primary and Secondary teams winning their respective events. Our students were also well-placed individually: Bosco Kwong (1), Facundo Munoz Lagos (3), Henry Chilcott (4), Bowen Yang Sun (5) and Riwaj Koirala (10) placed in the top 10 students in the Primary Division and Himash Keerthiratne (1), Mitchell Fulton (2), Harry Lillywhite (4), James Walker (5) and Justin Thompson (10) were among the top 10 Secondary Players. Bosco and Himash were the region’s top-ranked individual players.
Congratulations to all students for so capably representing the College.
