CHESS NATIONALS
Eleven Penquite students recently represented the College at the Interschool Chess National Finals.
This online tournament was held over two days, on 28 and 29 November. Two Year 6 students, Shiv Kataria and Hugo Clifton, competed against almost 90 students in the Middle School Division, while the Open Secondary Team comprised Addison Djatschenko, Hamish Knowles, Mitchell Fulton, Mohak Dhakal, Zach Hansen, Harry Lillywhite, Jack Duncan, James Walker and Himash Keerthiratne.
Against 19 other schools, our older students played very competitively and were among the top 5 teams for most of the tournament. After the seventh and final round, Scotch Oakburn Secondary finished in sixth place. Himash was our highest ranked player in ninth position, followed by Hamish Knowles and Addison Djatschenko in 22nd and 23rd respectively.
Congratulations to all our players for making it to Nationals, and for representing the College so admirably against the country’s best school chess teams.
