CHESS SUCCESS
Two of our Penquite students, Himash Keerthiratne (Year 8) and Harry Lillywhite (Year 9) recently participated in championships organised by the Tasmanian Chess Association. These were held in Hobart on 20 and 21 August.
Both the Tasmanian Lightning Championships and Rapid Championship are open tournaments, with many adult competitors. In the Lightning Championships each player gets 3 minutes to move, while in the Rapid Championships, which take place over 2 days, each player gets 25 minutes to move.
In spite of their relative youth and competing against many adult opponents, Himash and Harry achieved commendable results in both events. Himash in particular is to be congratulated on coming 2nd in the Lightning Championships and 3rd in the Rapid Championships.
