The week of sounds and sights around Elphin!

Around and throughout the Elphin Campus this week there has been plentiful evidence of learning in action!  The Year 3 Bike Education program, led by our HPE staff, highlighted the courage and determination from our Year 3 students as they learnt more about road safety with their bikes and also skills for lifelong benefits.  The Elphin Campus ‘highways’, ‘streets’ and ‘avenues’ provided many great moments for our students to display their skills and bike handling ability.

A highlight this week was to see and listen to the Summer Concerts from our Year 4 and Year 5 students. Congratulations to all students, it is wonderful to see this program in full flight.  Thank you to our Music staff, including tutors for their mentorship and coaching.  I am sure that in the coming weeks we will all continue to enjoy our bands, choirs and ensembles at our end of year celebrations.

On Wednesday our Year 3, 4 and 5 students enjoyed the author visit of Collegian Lian Tanner (’68).  It was wonderful to host our former student and witness her passion for creativity.  Lian’s curiosity was evident in her connection to being back at her school.

On Friday a team of over 50 students represented Scotch Oakburn College at the Northern Tasmania Primary Schools Triathlon Series at Devonport.  It is wonderful to see so many students attempting this opportunity, many for the first time, pushing themselves out of their comfort zones.  We are very proud of the team effort on the day!

Looking ahead to 2024, we are thrilled to announce two wonderful Round Square Conference opportunities for the students of Year 5 and Year 6 (current Year 4 and Year 5 students).  Scotch Oakburn College is a proud member of the Round Square Association of Schools, and next year we are celebrating our 20th Anniversary of being a member of this global organisation!  One element that we wish to re-introduce is the TAS-VIC Cluster Min-Conferences.  These mini conferences are a two night, three day program.  Next year we are aiming to have one conference in Semester One (early Term Two) in Victoria and a second hosted by Scotch Oakburn College at the Valley Campus in Term Three.  Further details will be provided early next year. We are thrilled to provide these opportunities and ensure that we have the Round Square IDEALS in action across the Elphin Campus.  “There is more within you than you think!” (Kurt Hahn, founder of Round Square and Outward Bound).
