Remembrance Day

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Junior School students came together in the beautiful Claremont Park setting to remember those who have served our country in times of conflict during and since World War 1. The short ceremony was led by our Year 5 House Leaders and the address was delivered by our Principal, Andy Muller. A wreath was laid and the trumpet sounds of the Last Post and Reveille, punctuated by a minute’s silence, rang among the trees on a very still morning. Lest we Forget.

Grandparents and Friends Day

This week our Year 5 students hosted their Grandparents or special family friends at the Elphin Campus. Almost 150 visitors joined the students for a Welcome Service, campus tours and morning tea on a day which is an annual tradition at the College.

This day is a small opportunity to enable members of students’ extended families to spend time together in a setting that plays such an important part in the lives of our students.

There is a wealth of social research confirming that when children can have time with members of their extended family and be loved and cherished, and then go home to more people who love them, they are more connected to the love and goodness in humanity and better able to live positive and productive lives.

We have a repertoire of strategies and programs at school for students to learn to care, be compassionate, to know respect and empathy and humility and commitment, but it is the generational conversations, modelling and mentoring through family and friends that is the glue that brings all this together as children’s independence and sense of responsibility develop on their pathway to adulthood.

Thank you to all our visitors and to our Year 5 staff and Marketing & Community team for coordinating such a memorable day.

Year 5 family Get together

Some of our Year 5 families recently gathered for a Sunday afternoon at the Hoo Hoo Hut for an afternoon of fun. Teams used a custom-coded digital treasure hunt app to explore the area. Braving some brisk winds, attendees feasted on a Gather&Graze spread and enjoyed live music by local musician Tom Fowkes. Fires were lit and new friends were made as the afternoon progressed.

Diego Munoz Lagos led his determined team to become outright champions, by completing a series of physical challenges as well as local and school-based trivia.

It was a wonderful afternoon enjoyed by everyone who attended.
