Project-based Learning…what the ‘P’ represents!!

Project-based learning is not new to teaching and learning, however, the opportunity to link curriculum areas through this approach is again proving valuable and motivating for so many Middle School students.  Project-based learning enables the learner to have agency in the direction and depth of the learning concept.  Meaningful project-based learning is reliant upon key literacy and numeracy skills to underpin the research, investigation, and presentation.

Currently, in the Middle School, we have 100’s of ‘project-based learning moments’ in action, including the EY8 projects, which have a community service benefit for many beyond Scotch Oakburn.  The upcoming Year 7 SOC2City22, a week-long immersion learning experience around Launceston, will provide students with the chance to connect to the concept and relationship between the future of the liveability of Launceston and Water in our World.  Year 6 students are currently researching, designing and drafting Government Policies and ‘Bills’ that they believe are important for their world.

These examples highlight how the ‘P’ in project-based learning underpins the ‘hidden gems of this approach:

Purpose
Passion
Perseverance
Personable Skills and Development
Perspective
Patience
Productive
Proactive
Prepared
Positive
Playful
Progressive
Pioneering
Potential
…..plus many more!

#beyou!
