Year 6 Civics and Citizenship

What perfect weather we have had in Hobart for our Year 6 Civics and Citizenship trip.  The Year 6 cohort experienced a variety of learning opportunities to develop their understanding of how Parliament works, Tasmanian Aboriginal culture, running a sustainable business and more.

Our Hobart trip has encouraged students to consolidate their understanding of how a bill becomes a law and the different roles of Parliamentarians. We saw Parliament in action as members debated issues. Year 6 Croft-Elliott was hosted for afternoon tea by The Honourable Jo Palmer MLC, who spoke to all classes along with The Honourable Rosemary Armitage MLC. A huge surprise occurred when Premier of Tasmania, The Honourable Jeremy Rockliff MP arrived to speak to the students and shared some insight into his role. Year 6 Hughes met The Honourable Michael Ferguson MP, the Deputy Premier and discussed the road developments near Longford.

Students have enjoyed spending time with their peers and touring Hobart’s historic features, having dinner out at restaurants, sitting in parks for morning tea and walking along the Waterfront. What a wonderful experience it has been for everyone.

Be Year 6!

An exciting week of welcoming in the Middle School.  This week while our current Year 6 students enjoyed a three-day learning experience in Hobart, we welcomed the 2023 Year 6 students into the Middle School for the ‘Be Year 6’ Program.  This two-day immersion program is the start of the Middle School orientation process.  Providing time and space to develop connections to a new home of learning, explore the Penquite Campus and the specialised learning areas and gain an understanding of the daily routines in the Middle School.

Middle School Orientation Day

Next week on Friday 18 November, we are all looking forward to the Middle School Orientation Day, a full-day program for all students attending the Middle School next year in Year 6 and 7.  The focus of this program will be to build relationships.  In House groups, the students will be challenged to learn collaboratively, to think creatively and critically to solve scientific problems, explore new languages and enjoy dynamic learning in creative industries and design.

Remembrance Day

Today we remember the sacrifices made by so many.  Our College’s Learner Attributes link strongly to this important National Day of reflection, such as tenacity, courage, collaboration, teamwork and agility. Thank you to the current Peer Leaders for representing our College community at services today.  Importantly, it is a chance for us to display gratitude and respect.  Lest we forget.
