FROM THE SENIOR SCHOOL
Parliamentary Shield Debating
On Friday 27 May and Saturday 28 May our senior debaters contested the annual Parliamentary Shield Debating competition at St. Patricks College. Both our teams won through the rounds to their respective finals on topics such as: “Democracy’s days are over” and “Harry Potter should be cancelled.” In the Parliamentary Shield Final, our team of: Maya Gurudoss (C), Imogen Duigan (C), Cassie Silberberg, Georgie Watson and Bianca Lockwood were valiant runners-up. In the Parliamentary Plate final, Amelie Hughes, Stephanie Wilks, Jasmine Irani and Chloe Davis were victorious, taking out the Parliamentary Plate and scoring an invitation to dine with the Deputy Premier, the Honourable Michael Ferguson, at Parliament House. The topic of this final was that: “All students should attend public schools”. We won the argument for the negative. It was an excellent weekend of verbal combat and all nine students represented Scotch Oakburn College with distinction. We now look forward to the hotly contested House debating in Term 3.
