As many in our community will know, at Scotch Oakburn the roles of Deputy Principal and Head of Senior School have always been a combined role.

During the process to appoint our new Deputy Principal/Head of Senior School the interview panel reflected on the responsibilities, skills, experience and areas of strategic knowledge the successful applicant will require to achieve the specific goals in our strategic vision. What became obvious to the interview panel was that the combined role of Deputy Principal and Head of Senior School will become too expansive to meet the College’s future needs. The decision was therefore made to split the role into its two parts.

Whilst border restrictions have slowed the appointment process for the Deputy Principal, the College has been able to progress the appointment of the Head of Senior School. The College is extremely fortunate to have the leadership capacity within its ranks to appoint existing staff to significant positions of leadership and it gives me great pleasure to announce that the Head of Senior School, commencing in January 2021, is Mr Stuart Walls.

Apart from Stuart’s extensive experience in a number of roles here at Scotch Oakburn, most notably Deputy Head of Middle School, Acting Head of Middle School and Round Square Representative, as well as in other schools in Tasmania and overseas, his vision for the Senior School was compelling. Stuart presented a cohesive combination of practical experience, educational theory and coupled that to the College’s own strategic vision to provide the interview panel with a clear picture of how our Senior School will evolve in the coming years under his leadership.

I congratulate Stuart on his appointment and look forward to working with him in the coming years as he brings his vision for Senior School to life.
