Mobile Phones

7 February, 2020

Parents would be aware of the ban on mobile phones in Tasmania schools.  I draw your attention to the school policy which can be found on page 8 of the Student Planner.  We have made all students on the Penquite Campus aware of this ban and have had excellent support from our students in keeping their phones “off and away” throughout the day.

Mobile phones are to be “off and away all day” at Scotch Oakburn College between 8.30am and 3.30pm. Phones are to be secured in student lockers (Years 7 to 12) or school bags (Years 6 and below).

Phones are never to be used in change rooms or toilets. At a teacher’s invitation and with the teacher’s permission, students may bring their mobile phone to class for learning purposes only. Phones are to be used discreetly, courteously, and with consideration and respect for others during times of authorised use. Any student who is injured or feeling unwell at school and needs to go home must arrange this through the relevant Student Reception, and not use their own mobile phone to ring home. Students must sign out if leaving the campus.

Staff may temporarily confiscate mobile devices if students do not comply with the College’s expectations of use. They will be kept in a safe place for students to collect at a later time. Students who continue to breach the College’s expectations will have their use of mobile technologies restricted or even withdrawn.
