A new initiative in the Round Square network has been the creation of Language Labs. Language Labs allow students to practice their language skills in an online environment with students from around the world. Each Lab is centred around a different theme, so far topics have been based on food, festivals, anime, nature, music, and fashion.

It was amazing to see students show their Courage and Effective Communication skills in a unique non-English environment. This year, our students participated in Japanese and Chinese Language Labs, here are their reflections:

“I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Chinese lab this year. I got to meet new people who also learn Chinese and learn about some of their traditions.” – Lulu Brown

“This was a wonderful opportunity to expand my language skills and collaborate with other like-minded students.” – Iona Hamilton

“I had lots of fun during the language lab I learnt lots of valuable information about Chinese traditions and celebrations. The things I have learnt I will take into the real world when I go to China one day.” – Jack Duncan

“The language labs have been an excellent opportunity to extend my language learning from the comfort of my own home.” – Lincoln Giasli

“I was incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Japanese Language Lab with Round Square. In a period of time where the opportunity to travel between countries is limited, it was a great experience to communicate, learn and further my own language skills with students from Japan online.” – Kate Atherton
