12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child’s Developing Mind

Your toddler throws a tantrum in the middle of Coles. Your preschooler refuses to get dressed. Your 11-year-old refuses to join his team on the court and stays on the bench. Do children conspire to make their parents’ lives endlessly challenging?

No — it’s just their developing brain calling the shots!

HOW CAN THIS COURSE HELP?

In this pioneering, practical book, neuropsychiatrist Dr Daniel J. Siegel and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson demystify the meltdowns and aggravation, explaining the new science of how a child’s brain is wired and how it matures. The ‘upstairs brain’, which makes decisions and balances emotions, is under construction until the mid-20s. And especially in young children, the right brain and its emotions tend to rule over the logic of the left brain.

By applying these discoveries to everyday parenting, you can turn any outburst, argument, or fear into a chance to integrate your child’s brain and foster vital growth. With clear explanations, age-appropriate strategies for dealing with day-to-day struggles, and illustrations that will help you explain these concepts to your child, The Whole-Brain Child shows you how to cultivate healthy emotional and intellectual development so that your children can lead balanced, meaningful, and connected lives.

HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?

Over a period of four weeks, you’ll learn 12 revolutionary strategies to nurture your child’s developing mind.

Sessions will be 8.45am to 10.30am, every Thursday for four weeks commencing Thursday 2 September.

Given the nature of the program and delivery, sessions are designed to be smaller, with up to 12 attendees, ensuring everyone has a voice.

If there is demand, the College will look at running another session at a later date.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The Whole Brain Child has been developed for parents and carers of children aged between 3-12.

Existing Parents/Guardians of students attending Scotch Oakburn College are welcome to attend. You do not need to have a student in the junior or early years, the opportunity is open to everyone.

To ensure the sessions are highly beneficial, Parents/Guardians are asked not to bring children.
