The group supports parents/carers to develop an emotional connection with their child and shows parents how to help their child learn about emotions and develop emotional intelligence. \nParents learn different ways to talk with and understand their child\, as well as how to help their young person manage emotions and deal with conflict. Parents also learn how to help prevent behaviour problems. \n‘Tuning in to Teens’ shows you how to help your teen develop emotional intelligence. \nHOW CAN THIS COURSE HELP?\nA six-session parenting program for parents/carers of teens to help: \n– teens develop emotional intelligence\n– communicate more effectively with your teen\n– understand your teen better\n– help your teen to manage those difficult emotions\n– help to prevent behavioural issues in your teen\n– teach your teen how to deal with conflict more effectively. \nHOW LONG IS THE COURSE?\n‘Tuning in to Teens’ is a short course run over six consecutive weeks between 3:30pm and 5:00pm\, commencing Friday 16 September. Given the nature of the program and delivery\, sessions are designed to be smaller with up to 15 attendees\, ensuring everyone has a voice. \nProgram dates: Friday 16 September\, Friday 23 September and Thursday 29 September\, a break in the school holidays and then Friday 21 October\, Friday 28 October and Friday 4 November. The venue will be in the Middle School and we will confirm the room prior to the first session. \nWHO SHOULD ATTEND?\nExisting Parents/Carers/Guardians of students in Years 5 – 8 attending Scotch Oakburn College are welcome to attend. To ensure the sessions are highly beneficial we request you do not bring children. \nFACILITATORS\nFranny Stewart  \nFranny is a registered Psychologist and School Counsellor at the Elphin Campus. She has worked internationally in schools and also across various mental health settings in London\, Melbourne and Launceston. One of Franny’s passions is in working with and supporting parents and she is excited to be a part of bringing the ‘Tuning in to Teens’ program to the College community \n  \nKiran Oates Pryor  \nKiran is the Counsellor and Social and Emotional Teacher at the Middle School Campus. She has been a classroom teacher for nearly twenty years\, teaching both primary students and early adolescents. Kiran’s background in student wellbeing and psychology has led to a strong interest in positive education\, particularly the importance of the home-school partnership\, helping students to thrive. She is also excited to be part of the ‘Tuning into Teens’ program and sharing the significance of emotionally intelligent parenting with the community of Scotch Oakburn College. \n  \nCOST\nThe six-week ‘Tuning in to Teens’ program is $100 per person and all funds raised will be donated to a community education program to support students and teens. Participants should ensure they are able to commit to attending all six sessions before booking. \nbook now\n
