Middle School Cricket Tour

Fourteen Scotch Oakburn Middle School cricketers travelled to Melbourne for 3 days of cricket against Carey Grammar, Mentone Grammar and Wesley College last weekend.

Staying at the University of Melbourne (Queen’s College), the boys played three 50 over games. The first game was against Carey Grammar with Scotch Oakburn winning by just 6 runs. The past week has been an awesome experience for six Middle Schoolers (and their escort) as they enthusiastically embraced the Round Square Conference at The Doon School in Dehradun, Northern India. While the conference theme related to the leadership and service IDEALS mainly, all six pillars were well and truly being lived. There were 154 students from 22 schools and only two delegations were not Indian Schools. Year 7/8 Martial Arts

In week 7 some of the Year 7 and 8 Chinese classes took part in a lesson on martial arts (wushu).  This lesson was held by Jiang Laoshi (Mr Jiang), who talked about the meaning behind martial arts and its use both historically and today.  Students also had the chance to practice some wushu for themselves, following Jiang Laoshi in a five-step set.

Middle School Final Assembly

Middle School Final Assembly is being held in the Horton Auditorium on Friday, 7 December from 9.00am – 10.20am.  Parents and friends of Year 8 students are invited to attend.

Please be seated by 8.45am so that we are able to start on time.  Parents are invited to join their child and Scotch Oakburn College staff for morning tea in Café 8 afterwards.

Schools Triathlon Challenge

On Wednesday and Thursday this week a number of Middle School student participated in the Schools Triathlon Challenge held in Devonport.  The aims of the Schools Triathlon Challenge are:

1. To help promote active and healthy lifestyle choices to students.

2. To provide a pathway for students to become engaged in physical activity.

3. To provide students with an opportunity to undertake an achievable personal challenge.

Year 6 visit Canberra

Last week the Year 6 student body went to Canberra on our Civics and Citizenship tour to explore the Australian political system. We left Launceston Airport on Tuesday morning with an extremely excited group of students and staff members.

Our Canberra trip commenced with an afternoon of appreciation at the National Gallery of Australia where we had a guided tour around the different exhibits.
