In finishing the year, I would like to thank senior students and their families for their contribution to the school year. It has again been a full and busy year with many highlights in a range of areas.

Mia King (Year 11) has been selected in the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Academy Squad. Mia is one of 48 players to have been named in the third intake of this Academy, with academy members receiving a NAB AFL Women’s Academy scholarship that provides high-performance camps and personal development opportunities over a 12-month period. Mia also played in a practice game against North Melbourne recently in Hobart and has been asked to start travelling to Melbourne regularly for training with the North Melbourne team.

Australian Schools Basketball Championships

Our Senior boys travelled to Melbourne for the Australian Schools Basketball Championships from 2-7 December to participate in the U/20 Mens Division. They faced some very tough competition playing against the following schools: Mount Lilydale Mercy College (VIC), The Scots College (NSW), Hunter Sports High School (NSW), Reddam House School (NSW) and Newington College (NSW).

The boys won two games against Reddam House and Scotts College and only lost by under 10 points to the majority of the other schools, a slow start in a few of the games a contributing factor. […]

ICAS presentations for Years 9 and 10

During assembly on Monday 3 December, Year 9 and 10 students who received a Distinction or better on their ICAS tests were presented with their certificates. This is an outstanding achievement and we congratulate them and all the other students who participated in these competitions during the year.

Distinction certificates were awarded to Isabella Drew (Year 9) for English, Alex Davies (Year 10) for Mathematics, Andre Van Zyl (Year 10) for Mathematics, Sam Day (Year 10) for Science and Caitlyn Cutler (Year 10) for both English and Science.

Celebration

We look forward to seeing you all at Celebration at the Albert Hall Convention Centre on Tuesday, 11 December at 7.00pm. As per the invitation sent 12 November, all Senior School students are expected to be at the Albert Hall Convention Centre and seated by 6.45pm.  Students are to wear full winter school uniform and I am sure that they will make an effort to look their best on this important occasion.  All students are reminded that all aspects of their appearance must adhere to school rules (this includes jewellery and hair length and colour).  We thank you for your support.

Year 10 Work Experience

This week 47 Year 10 students have been out in the “real world” of work, experiencing a wide variety of occupations in over 75 workplaces around Launceston and in other parts of Tasmania.   Teaching, veterinary science, trades, health professions, architecture, engineering … the huge variety of career options being investigated during our work experience week has given students the opportunity to “test drive” future career ideas and has added to their understanding with regard to future training and education requirements.  This experience inevitably results in students returning to school with […]
