Barry Tarrant, past staff member, teacher, Head of Boarding, football coach and great supporter of Scotch Oakburn College passed away on Sunday 28 May 2023.

Barry began teaching at Scotch College in 1977, before the amalgamation of Oakburn and Scotch Colleges, and has been a presence at the College ever since. Barry was forever a staunch supporter of Scotch Oakburn College and after he retired from teaching, Barry would often grace us with his presence on a Friday afternoon until he and his wife, Rosemary, moved to Melbourne approximately 18 months ago, to be closer to family.

Barry’s sense of humour, irreverent at times, endeared him to all who met him. Consequently, he was a friend to many, always having time to listen, talk and share the wisdom of his experience. All those who knew him have many Barry Tarrant stories, whether from the classroom, the Boarding House, football games and trips, or the staffroom. He brought joy into the lives of those whom he taught, coached, mentored and guided, and those he worked alongside.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, and three daughters, all of whom attended Scotch Oakburn – Elizabeth, Olivia and Edwina, and their families.

Barry Tarrant, a true gentleman who will be missed by many.
