Transforming Spaces and Minds at our Junior School

As the new year unfolds, our Junior School is embarking on an exciting journey of transformation. With a focus on innovation, creativity, and purpose, 2025 is a year where we have not just reimagined our physical spaces but also how our students learn, grow, and thrive. This is more than just a facelift—it’s a bold step into the future, blending state-of-the-art facilities with a reenergised curriculum designed to nurture the whole child.

At the heart of these changes lies the construction of the Lachie Wright Centre, a purpose-built facility that is progressing at full steam. Slated to open mid-year, the Centre will provide our students with an environment designed for modern learning. From technology integrated hubs that foster digital fluency to collaborative zones that spark creativity and critical thinking, this space will empower students to explore, innovate, and engage. It is more than a building; it is a hub of inspiration where ideas will take flight and young minds will grow.

Pleasingly, the transformation doesn’t stop there. Outdoor spaces are also under review, with plans to refresh our playing fields and actively explore the creation of an all-weather play space. While these plans are still in development and not yet confirmed, they reflect our commitment to creating inclusive environments where students can play and connect, no matter the weather. As we move forward, we will keep families informed of progress and ensure any updates are guided by what best supports our students’ needs.

But it is not just about new facilities— our curriculum is undergoing an equally exciting evolution. This is a deliberate, thoughtful shift, designed to inspire curiosity, foster creativity, and equip students with skills for a dynamic world.

In addition to beloved staples like Art, Music, Health and Physical Education (HPE), and Chinese, students will now have opportunities to implement a range of innovative specialist subjects. These include Digi-Tech, STEAM/Makers, Rich Media, Learning through the IDEALS, and Storytime, among others. These subjects bridge the gap between the classroom and the wider world, encouraging students to think critically, connect with diverse perspectives, work collaboratively and explore real-world applications of their learning.

Our new timetable structure reflects our holistic approach to education with a focus on community connection and energising the entire school day. By balancing structured lessons with opportunities for creative exploration and hands-on discovery, we aim to cultivate not just capable learners but also fearless problem solvers, curious thinkers, and inspired creators.

This intentional redesign aligns with our belief that education is about engaging the mind, heart, and hands. Whether students are exploring nature, collaborating on STEAM projects, or diving into a new language, they will learn to see challenges as opportunities and to embrace the unknown with confidence. Through this journey, our students will support one another, fostering a strong sense of community and resilience.

Every decision behind these changes has been guided by a single, unwavering question: What is best for our students? From the Lachie Wright Centre, to pausing for lunch as a class, to the revamped curriculum, to protecting time for play, every initiative has been thoughtfully designed to support their growth, development, and joy in learning.

As we look to the year ahead, we are filled with anticipation and excitement for what is to come. Together, with our students, staff, and families, we are building a brighter future for our Junior School—one that inspires exploration, celebrates transformation, and empowers every child to thrive.
