Today, I had the immense pleasure of announcing, alongside Deputy Principal – Elphin, Ben Green, that our next major capital works project, named The Lachie Wright Centre, will commence construction in the very near future. This exciting development is set to address the current learning space challenges at the Elphin Campus, and most importantly, it will significantly enhance the learning experience for all students, particularly our Year 5 cohort.

VALUES IN ACTION

2025-05-08T10:13:22+10:0026 June, 2024|Categories: SOC Blog|

At Scotch Oakburn College, the values we uphold are not mere words; they are the essence of our community. These values were brought into sharp focus at the beginning of Term Two when the staff of the entire College engaged in a series of workshops with restorative practice leader David Vinegrad. Restorative practices align seamlessly with our values, emphasising respect, responsibility, and community. By engaging in restorative practices, students not only adhere to the College’s code of conduct but also embody the values that Scotch Oakburn holds dear.

VALUES IN ACTION
THROUGH RESTORATIVE PRACTICES

Restorative practices are techniques that aim to strengthen community […]

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH

It was an absolute pleasure to witness our talented Middle School students perform in our Middle School Production, James and the Giant Peach.

It was clear to all in the audience that the chemistry and support witnessed on stage did not happen by chance. Our cast and crew worked tirelessly, from March to the performances in May. They dedicated countless hours after school, on weekends, and even during the Term One break to bring the production to life. Throughout this journey, they grew significantly, both individually and as a […]

For Peta Antypas (’20) the decision to pursue a career in medicine was deeply rooted in her passion for science, advocacy, and a profound connection to her local community. A fourth-year medical student at the University of Tasmania, her journey has included the guidance of Dr John Saul (Scotch ’77), an experienced general practitioner who shares a similar commitment to serving the Tasmanian community. Paired by participating in Scotch Oakburn College’s mentor program, the duo has enriched each other’s lives, and hope to continue doing so for many years to come.

CURATING ACCESSIBLE ART

2025-01-02T14:56:26+11:009 April, 2024|Categories: SOC Blog|

Returning home to Tasmania was like sinking into a comfortable, old armchair for Megan Dick (‘88). As a former student who attended the school with her siblings Andrew (‘91), Katrina (‘87) and Rowena (‘93), the Curator of The John Glover Art Prize was seeing the landscape of Scotch Oakburn from different eyes.

“After leaving school, I didn’t have much of a connection with Scotch, but now it is quite nice to be amongst it,” Megan said.

“You only realise when your children go back to school how nice it is to have that school […]
