Library Monitor Program

The Library Monitor Program is a voluntary lunchtime activity for students in Years 6–12, with Year 6 able to join in Semester 2, requiring attendance once per 10-day cycle. The program introduces students to essential library skills such as shelving, circulation tasks, and using the computerised library system, while also developing workplace skills including customer service, problem-solving, and responding to basic enquiries. Throughout the year, Library Monitors receive training, help choose new books, and often get the first read of new titles, forming a reading community that shares interests and recommendations across year levels. Students with artistic strengths may also assist with themed library displays. The role is generally a year-long commitment for Years 7–12, though students may opt for a single semester, and Year 6 students participate in Semester 2. Monitors complete a fortnightly circulation and re-shelving roster, while the reading-interest and “book club” aspects continue informally. Experienced senior students support younger monitors through mentoring and peer training.
