We invite students to join us for a one year international exchange to Scotch Oakburn College.

BOARDING LIFE

At Scotch Oakburn College, boarding offers an exceptional residential experience in a safe, supportive and well-supervised environment. Beyond the classroom, students enjoy a balanced program of study, recreation, social connection and weekend activities, helping them build confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging.

A TYPICAL DAY

7:00 am

Early Morning Activities

Sport training, music practice and rehearsals take place. The Fitness Centre is open for anyone who enjoys a morning workout.

Breakfast

A variety of healthy options are offered including international foods to make students feels welcome.

8:40 am

School Begins

After breakfast, the bus departs for the Penquite Campus where students ready themselves for the school day. Students will often meet friends before heading off to classes together.

School Ends

For those students returning to the Boarding House, afternoon tea is served and there is time to unwind.  Others may attend sporting practice or games, or other co-curricular activities.  Students generally return to the Boarding House by 5:45 pm.

Dinner

Dinner is served! Multiple food options and an eclectic menu caters to our diverse community.

6:45 pm – 6:55 pm

Boarding House Meeting

TIme for the entire boarding house to meet, discuss matters and any announcements.

7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Evening Study and Prep

Structured study time. An opportunity to consolidate and revise work from the school day and prepare for the next day.

8:15 pm – 8:40 pm

Supper and Relax

Enjoy a light snack prior to bed, read a book, socialise, prepare for bed and the next day.

Tech hand in

All technology is handed in to boarding staff at night.

Year 9: 9:00 pm
Year 10: 9:30 pm

Lights out

All students are in their own room 10 minutes before lights out.

IMPORTANT
INFORMATION

Our school year begins on Tuesday 2 February 2027 and ends Friday 10 December 2027, however we are happy to have some flexibility on dates to assist your Japanese schooling journey.

You would need to arrive the day before to settle into the Boarding House and collect your uniform.

We would be very happy to accept up to five Year 9 students and five Year 10 students for the year.

As well as doing the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, Physical Education and Health, Humanities and Social Science, you will be asked to select from a range of elective subjects.  Examples of subjects can be found in the 2026 Subject handbooks below.  If successful, a 2027 Hanbook will be provided for subject selection.

From Education Outdoors,  Visual Arts, Performing Arts, sport options and Extension & Enrichment Programs, there are many things to choose from to keep you busy.

Students are required to have Eiken Pre-2 (CFER A2) or better level of English.

Payment of our fee for the academic year includes tuition, levies and boarding. It will also cover the following:

  • All compulsory activities and excursions including Outdoor Education camps
  • Technology levy (laptop loan)
  • Teaching resources, texts and e-texts
  • A College Yearbook

It will not cover:

  • Equipment hire as needed for Outdoor Education
  • Private music lessons
  • Workbooks and stationery
  • Health Insurance costs
  • Uniform costs (approximately $1500 for the year).
  • Student visa application costs
  • Homestay costs
  • Other optional extras such as balls, functions or competitions.

As our Boarding House is closed over Term breaks, a family in our community would welcome you into their home over this time. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to experience life in Tasmania.

In 2027 our Term breaks are:

  • Saturday 10 April to Monday 26 April
  • Saturday 26 June to Monday 19 July
  • Saturday 25 September to Sunday 10 October

Once you have been advised you are successful, 50% of fees are required upon the acceptance of an exchange placement at Scotch Oakburn College. At this time we will be able to provide you with a Confirmation of Enrolment letter that you will need in order to apply for your student visa.

The remaining fees will be due halfway through your exchange.

Uniform costs will required on arrival when purchasing uniform items.
