THE LEARNING STARTS HERE
Scotch Oakburn College is a school with a big heart, built on strong relationships and a culture of care, designed to give every child a sense of belonging and firm roots from which to grow and build. The best time to start at Scotch Oakburn is when learning starts.
We celebrate childhood, we nurture and care for every child. Our staff forge close relationships with child and parent, gaining insight and understanding to provide outstanding learning and pastoral care.
What is Pre-prep? Pre-Prep is part of our Early Learning Centre and is for students turning five during the school year. Our Early Learning Centre is unique to most as it is connected to our school, led by qualified teachers, has access to specialist teachers for activities like PE, technology and music, and resources such as our conneXions Hub. It is the perfect place to start the learning journey.
We recognise the potential in everyone.
We promote self-awareness and self-confidence so students can thrive.
Students have room to breathe, have fun and enjoy endless opportunities.
We combine a unique set of ingredients for a truly exceptional experience.

A STRUCTURED LEARNING APPROACH
WE CONSISTENTLY DELIVER QUALITY LEARNING OUTCOMES
● Structured learning is a specialised craft learnt over many years of experience. All children love to play, explore and discover. This is underpinned by a clear purpose and curriculum-linked process which drives outcomes.
● Capped class sizes and strong staff; student ratios foster greater relationships and close learning partnerships between parents, teachers and students.

DEDICATED TEACHERS & LEARNING ASSISTANTS
EXPERIENCED AND PASSIONATE
● All classes have 100% dedicated, full-time teachers and Learning Assistants who are committed to each class group. This year round commitment and consistency provides a deeper connection with students and improved learning outcomes.
● Our teachers and Learning Assistants, over time, develop lasting, in-depth knowledge and relationships with each and every student and family. This partnership supports the close tracking of student needs and progress.

WE ARE EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIALISTS
WE ARE ALWAYS LEARNING
● Early Childhood specialist staff know intimately the academic, social, emotional and physical learning needs and developmental pathways for 4-8-year old children.
● Our commitment to lifelong learning supports the ongoing professional learning for all staff. This ongoing development of all staff ensures our student experiences are at the leading edge of emerging educational research.

HOW DO OUR LEARNERS LEARN?
A CLEAR FOCUS ON INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING
● What is Inquiry-Based Learning? Inquiry-based learning is a form of active learning that starts by posing questions, problems or scenarios. It contrasts with traditional education, which generally relies on the teacher presenting facts and their own knowledge about the subject.
● Explicit teaching is also woven through inquiry-based learning.
● Strengths-based starting points are provided for each student.
● Learner self-belief is a high priority.
● Strong underlying Reggio Emilia influence.

OUR LEARNER PROFILE
ACADEMIC AND LEARNER ATTRIBUTES
● Academic progress is tracked in parallel with Learner Attributes in a holistic approach, blending curriculum and character development year on year through the College.
● Introduction to College co-curricular programs begin immediately.
● Individual ePortfolios help parents see their child’s all round learning development.

THOROUGH LITERACY AND NUMERACY DEVELOPMENT
WE ARE FOCUSED ON CRITICAL FOUNDATION LEARNING
● Building a solid base of critical foundational learning is the cornerstone of future academic success and development. Our early learning specialists have a clear structure that addresses this important point.
● Strong phonics (teaching method) core provides the foundation for emergent reading development.
● The College’s specialist Literacy teacher works alongside each class teacher in Prep to maximise every opportunity, ensuring every student has the chance to succeed.
● Our dedicated Learning Support staff provide another layer of support to our Prep students delivering literacy or numeracy tuition.
