19 December, 2022

Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2022, who have completed an outstanding year in all facets of the life of Scotch Oakburn College.

The determination of the Year Level and enthusiasm to be involved in the broader life of the College has been an inspiration to the younger students and something for them to strive to emulate. The cohort’s sense of compassion, respect and responsibility for and to their peers, and their pride when representing the College have been their trademarks throughout their time at Scotch Oakburn. In doing so, they have led and perpetuated the strong sense of school spirit that is a trademark of Scotch Oakburn.

Throughout the year we have witnessed their encouragement of the spirit of friendly rivalry in House competitions, sportsmanship and camaraderie on the sporting field, excellence on the stage in the full array of the performing arts and outstanding academic performances. In addition, the Year Level has led philanthropic endeavours, raising awareness and  donations to:

  • The Salvo’s Sleepout, supporting the homeless in our communities,
  • The Big Freeze to help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease,
  • The World’s Greatest Shave, supporting cancer research,
  • and The Blue Tree Project, aimed at ‘kicking the stigma of mental health’.

The ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) is, on the surface, an academic gauge; however, we know from research that students who are involved in a variety of pursuits beyond the classroom are also those who achieve most closely to their potential. Hence, the median ATAR is also a gauge of the positive culture that is best described as ‘school spirit’. The class of 2022 achieved a median ATAR of 86.55, indicating that 50% of our Year 12 students were placed in the top 13.45% nationally. This alone is an outstanding effort; more importantly, the College is proud of all that our Year 12 students have achieved and congratulates them on a wonderful year, excelling in many areas of endeavour, in and beyond the classroom.

On behalf of the College, I sincerely thank the Class of 2022 for all that they have given and achieved whilst at Scotch Oakburn.
